Always a fine line between letting a loco blow off and making sure the fire is right for getting away!

No sometimes they used to want a spare engine outside the Foremans Office, in case of a breakdown

Yes, you are quite correct. It was indeed Harry Ranger.

The last time that I saw Harry was in mid to late 80s. He was on a Boat Train that I was Driving between Dover and Victoria.

If my memory serves me right Len Trigg was known as 'Pierpoint' - a reference to his 'hang dog' demeanour. Pierpoint Sykes was the public hangman - a droll bunch footplatement!
