How times have changed, from then to now.

Post by 34017 Ilfracombe on Thu May 21, 2009 7:22 pm

My, how times have changed from the early 1960s until now.

When, I was a young fireman, on what we called "Billy Sh*t" turns, my top link driver, upon arrival at Nine Elms loco, left me to dispose of the engine, and berth her on my own. He told me that he had to go and collect his weekly rental income. It was 2 shillings and sixpence. Just found this advertisement.£285 pw1 bedroom flat to rent in Nine Elms, and thats for 1 room, his was for a house Shocked

Indeed, how things have changed! I've been left plenty of times on the MHR to dispose of the loco on my own.... I can't wait to get back down there! I can't say i've ever berthed the loco so to speak, but I have done all the Firemans duties and they do tend to do things properly.
Mind you I will be down the MHR in the middle of June helping out in the shed. Possibly working with a name; which I am sure some may remember. Sid Weaver.

When you get back down there, give Syd Weaver my best wishes. An ex Feltham Driver, but still one to be respected.

I will certainly give Sid Weaver you're best wishes. I didn't think he was just at Feltham depot though?
