Visits to Eastleigh MPD and Works

Post by BB34057 on Sun Jun 23, 2013 3:51 am

Myself a 2 school mates set off to Eastleigh on Saturday 21st January 1964 to check out the withdrawn locos we anticipated had been gathering at Eastleigh MPD over the winter months. We caught a SR EMU at Havant to connect to a DEMU at Fratton to take us to Eastleigh, passing Fratton MPD we noted BB 34060. N 31408 and Standards 76006, 76009, 76063 present in the shed yard.

By the time we had arrived at Eastleigh station thick fog had set in, ideal for shed bunking but not for taking photographs. With great anticipation we set off towards Campbell Road, over the bridge and down towards the Shed to a known gap in the fence, In we went, crawled under a line of coal wagons, then around the coal stack and over to the two sidings next to the airfield which were used for withdrawn locos or locos waiting to enter the works. Now confident we were OK we explored the shed and the locos noted were:
