Salisbury MPD 18 April 1964

Following on from the visit to Eastleigh Works and MPD the next major stop for the 'Hampshire Venturer' railtour was to Salisbury via Andover Junction (where standard Cl5 73086 was noted) for a visit to Salisbury MPD. At Salisbury station M7 30025 was busy as the station shunter/pilot. On my previous visits to Salisbury during 1962 and 1963 WR 57XX pannier tanks 4616, 4626 & 4630 were employed on this duty. Also noted at the station was diesel D7025 on a Portsmouth-Cardiff train.

Observed on Salisbury MPD during the visit were:

MN: 35010.
WC/BB: 34002, 34009, 34013, 34030, 34059, 34085, 34091, 34097, 34099.
S15: 30825, 30828, 30830, 30838.
U: 31632.
Q: 30532, 30535, 30548 (the railtour loco taking water).
M7: 30021, 30025, 30254.
WR 2251 class: 2268.
Standard Cl5: 73043, 73116, 73117, 73162.
Standard Cl4: 75003, 75067.
Standard Cl4: 76018, 76053, 76054, 76067.
LM Cl2T: 41210, 41315 (both dead on shed & due to replace the M7's).

After visiting Salisbury MPD the tour continued to Poole, Hamworthy Goods and finally via Ringwood to finish at Southampton Central.

Noted in the Poole area were:
MN: 35005.
Q: 30540, 30546
Standard Cl4: 76025

Noted at Southampton Central were:
MN: 35014, 35019
Standard Cl4: 76064 (seen earlier during the day at Fratton MPD and later at Eastleigh MPD.
Observed working in the yards near St. Denys was Diesel shunter D2282.

89 Ex- SR locos were seen during the tour on 18th April 1964 as follows:
